The Role
The Campus Clinical Head (CCH) is responsible to the Executive Director, SA Medical Imaging (SAMI) for all aspects of service delivery of Medical Imaging at our client’s growing service including:
• Efficient and effective management of SAMI resources (human, financial and capital).
• Direct line management of SAMI medical staff at the hospital.
• Liaison with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and site based leadership teams regarding service provision.
• Representing SAMI at campus meetings (e.g. hospital clinical governance, management team).
• Liaison with clinicians and referrers regarding service provision issues and ensuring that SAMI service delivery and systems are in accordance with SAMI’s business objectives, policies and directives.
• Attendance at the SAMI Executive Management Team, contribution to the governance, integration and efficiency of SAMI.
• Decision making and action in congruent fashion with SAMI financial and other objectives.
• Oversight of quality and safety of SAMI services, of training and development and of imaging research at the hospital campus.
The Clinical Head will carry a significant clinical workload. The respective FTE fraction devoted to Clinical or Executive duties will be determined by the ED SAMI in consultation with the incumbent as required from time to time.
The Campus Clinical Head is also responsible for provision of an effective and efficient Radiologist service at our client’s regional sister facility.
The Department – Current & Future Vision
• Current department staffing: 60-70 FTE
• Currently staffed by 5 FTE Radiologists (will become 6 FTE once the Campus Clinical Head position is filled)
• The Hospital intends to introduce Interventional Radiology services in 2016 and a second CT scanner shortly thereafter
• Following successful Clinical Head recruitment, this Department expects to attain accreditation for training in conjunction with the SA Radiology training network. Research opportunities are possible, initially in association with referring clinical teams
This health service is rapidly expanding and there will be substantial increases in the number of hospital beds over the next two years. Accordingly, there will need to be commensurate growth in Medical Imaging activity and the range of imaging studies and procedures. This setting offers challenges, and also the opportunity for the successful applicant to shape and develop the Medical Imaging service in a rapidly developing Local Health Network whilst maintaining integration of services with SAMI objectives.
The Employer – Current & Future Vision
Our client, a 257-bed acute care teaching hospital located in Adelaide, provides a full range of medical, surgical, diagnostic, emergency and support services to a population of more than 300,000 people. It is affiliated with the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia.
The Hospital is also actively involved in cutting edge research, making this facility a centre for both medical and research excellence.
In recent years, this facility has undergone rapid and extensive expansion including the funding of a $336 million, three-part redevelopment program of its services and facilities to meet the increasing healthcare needs of the growing suburbs and surrounding areas.
The facility encompasses state-of-the-art maternity, obstetrics and gynaecology sections, as well as a new women’s and children’s area. Much of the hospital’s core clinical and support infrastructure has been replaced at a cost of $91.2 million. 2005 saw the opening of six new operating theatres, a new Emergency Department, new medical imaging facilities and women’s health consulting and treatment facilities.
Stage B of the redevelopment costing $43.5million, included a 50-bed, acute and aged care mental health facility, a $7million Radiation Oncology unit, enhanced medical and palliative services, the establishment of an extended emergency care unit, day surgery and ambulatory services and the expansion of support services. In August 2008 three new areas of the Hospital were opened including new pathology, oncology and gastroenterology units.
The State Government committed a further $202million towards Stage C of the hospital’s redevelopment, which included a $25million, multi-level staff and visitor car park (completed in 2010), as well as adding an additional 100-150 inpatient beds over the next seven years. The hospital’s future service profile is anticipated to include enhancements to the volume and complexity of interventional cardiology, urology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, cancer services, neurology and general medicine.
Continuing on from this hospitals recent and ongoing major redevelopments, the SA Health initiative, Transforming Health, will also see the development and expansion of medical services at this Hospital and throughout the region.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this opportunity you will ideally be currently practicing as a Specialist Radiologist in either Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, the USA or Canada (or any other comparable healthcare system). You will have your fellowship from the RANZCR or equivalent qualifications (for e.g. CCT, CCST, FRCR).
